Outdoor Land Play Therapy
Championing the therapeutic power of nature
Children are spending far less time outdoors today and are missing out on important experiences which contribute to regulation, well-being, learning and resilience.
What is Landplay Therapy?
This is a form of play therapy where the therapist takes the child outdoors to utilize the benefits of nature and incorporates it into the healing process. At Creative Connections we are very lucky to have a wonderful outdoor space around our Therapy cabin which we have developed to provide nature-based play therapy in the outdoors.
Known for its effectiveness helping children who have been identified as struggling with physical and emotional difficulties, outdoor play therapy can help to ground and balance children who are hyperactive and assists those suffering from loss and those adapting to change. Recent studies have found that the outdoors can help with improving mood and focus and cognitive benefits for those children and young people on the Autistic Spectrum.
At Creative Connections Therapy we believe that enriched and diverse sensory experiences are essential for healthy brain growth and neural network building. Using a creative and reflective approach allows our children to explore outdoor experiences to develop a positive sense of self through the nurturing aspects of nature.
As well as the traditional toys within our therapy cabin, we offer children the opportunity to use the nature that surrounds us as a play resource, using natural resources and objects such as wood, seeds, stones, shells, dried plants and flowers, clay, mud, sand and water, as well as den building and three-dimensional construction.
